NEW EMPLOYEE BENEFIT PLANS TO CONSIDER
1. TEXASONLINE.COM
A new Web site, just launched on 9/28/00, will offer Texas residents 24-hour, sevenday access to renewing licenses, applying for permits and other selected state business. Could this be the opportunity for imaginative employers to promote and/or provide online access as a new employee benefit? One that saves employees from having to take time off work to stand in long lines.
The site -- a public-private partnership -- packages information and services from several state and local agencies in a format that is easily navigated. Encryption technology protects credit card and Social Security numbers.
New state residents can now obtain information about getting a driver's license, registering to vote and obtaining the proper paperwork for their automobile. Other residents will soon be able to renew their driver's license and motor vehicle registration renewal. The state hopes to have every agency online within three years. Local governments have the option of linking to the site.
To help pay for the site, fees ranging from $1 to $3 will be charged for some services.
Employers and their Human Resource people will want to visit this site and become familiar with the services available. It could be a real time saver that could result in increased productivity.
